Orbital Prosthetic

Hand 1

Facial prosthesis are a treatment option for patients who are non-candidates for reconstructive surgery or who choose not to undergo further procedures. Patients experiencing loss of a facial feature due to cancer, trauma, or a birth defect can benefit a great deal from a facial prosthesis. The purpose of a facial prosthesis is to restore symmetry, protect exposed tissues, and reinstate passive function of the lost anatomy. For instance restoring an ear allows the patient to wear eyeglasses, sunglasses, and eyeshields – and better capture sound. Restoring a nose prevents nasality in speed by closing an open social function to re-enter school, the workplace, or carry out any day-to-day activity.

Facial prosthesis can be worn either with adhesive or with osseointegrated implants. For more information, ask to speak with one of our clinical anaplastologists.
